No Recession Apparent on this Easter Morning!
From where I’m sitting in the Fort Lauderdale International Airport, there really aren’t any signs of a recession, at least not in this particular part of our country. The airport concourse is overflowing with people and the few lunch options available are all filled with long lines of travelers purchasing overpriced food of questionable quality with abandon. The plane on which we arrived was almost completely full and the Atlanta airport from which we departed was also busy even VERY early this morning. In the duty free shops there are short lines of customers and with many patrons carrying packages of merchandise. As is so very often the case the media has apparently created a crafted image that doesn’t reflect reality when it comes to the state of our economy. While there are issues with many real estate markets around the country this hasn’t spread to other parts of the economy, at least not yet from what I can see.
I know that some of you will say that I don’t have a wide enough perspective to really have a grasp of the national economy and you would be correct. Still, my belief is that the reality is nowhere near as daunting as the newscasts would have one to believe. If I have a different opinion of the economy after a few days of R&R on the beach I’ll let you know…
